CBS: Roster, Scoring, Playoffs
Like all of PB's Fantasy Sports leagues, PB's Fantasy Basketball is a Head to Head league (H2H), that will incorporate the format of most categories is a win. For example, in a given week you are only awarded 1 win if you win the most amounts of categories vs. your opponent; opposed to 6-3 if you won 6 categories and lost 3. If a game ends in a tie, it was result in a tie. This format has been created to optimize the activity and chatter in the league and to promote trading between teams. As in real life basketball, to win the championship, it not only takes getting to the playoffs, but it also takes a hot team; the best team is not always guaranteed to win.
PB's Fantasy Basketball will be played through CBS Sportsline. CBS is the preferred choice for PB's Fantasy Basketball because it is the only fantasy service that allows up to 30 teams. All players on your 12-Man active roster that you have selected to start your franchise with will be available for the competition portion of PB's Fantasy Basketball.
CBS Roster
On CBS Sportsline, your roster will be broken down into the same two parts as it is on the message board. The 12-Man active roster that you have selected will be allowed to accumulate stats, while the three-man injured reserve cannot unless called up on the message board. You may do this easily on CBS and do NOT need approval from the Commissioners Office, however, I stress you must follow the promoting rules. Again, you CANNOT use anyone on your 3-Man injured reserve to accumulate stats for your team without promoting them first to your 12-Man active roster.
You will have the option of selecting a player to fill the “active” positions on your roster (do not confuse active players with the active roster). Only “active” positions will accumulate statistics throughout the course of the season and determine how successful your team is. The active roster spots are as follows:
1 PG (point guard)
1 SG (shooting guard)
1 SF (small forward)
1 PF (power forward)
1 C (center)
3 UT (any position)
These players may be moved in and out of the “active” position spots on a daily basis. This means you can set your lineup differently every day and are not restricted to changing your lineup once a week. You do, however, have the option of setting your roster days in advance through CBS. With this feature especially, know that not setting your lineup is unfair to both your opponent and to every GM vying for a playoff berth. Failure to set your lineup will not be tolerated and will lead to the eviction from the league immediately. It is VERY important. You are responsible for giving it your best EVERY week.
The statistical categories that will be tabulated to determine the League Champion each year include every aspect of the game:
Points, Field Goals Made, Assists, Rebounds, Blocks, Steals, Three Pointers Made, Field Goal Percentage, Free Throw Percentage, Turnovers (fewer turnovers wins)
Getting to the NBA Finals
Each year, 16 teams will make the playoffs. Each division winner will be in, along with 5 wildcards from both the Eastern Conference and Western Conference (best records after division winners). The fantasy season will end 4 weeks before the MLB regular season does. The top 8 teams in each league will make the playoffs with the division winners in each conference receiving the top three seeds. If any of the top seeds are tied, the tie-breaker will go to the best H2H record vs. each other. The tie-breaker to make the playoffs will be the same. The second tie-breaker will be determined by conference record, and the third tie-breaker is your cumulative season total of points. The tie-breaker in the playoffs will go to your playoff seeding, and the second tie-breaker will go to your in season H2H record; opposed to the in-season rule of a tie. The Eastern Conference Champion will play the Western Conference Champion in the NBA Finals, and the winner will claim Champions of the League!
